You may have seen it on This Morning or heard about it on radio 4's Women's Hour, The Swimsuit by Sarah Kennedy is the second collaboration between Carlton books and C20's archive. It's a fashion history from 1920's Biarritz and the birth of the bikini to sportswear styles and catwalk trends. Beautifully illustrated with lots of period photographs and costumes from our collection, the book traces the development of the swimsuit from voluminous Victorian outfits which dared to bare the ankle, through changing social attitudes to the designer swimwear we know today. This month we're launching our rock n roll menswear All the Young Dudes with fabulous collection from the 60's and 70's featuring some stunning Biba a la New York Dolls and fabulous Ossie Clark chiffon shirts with prints by Celia Birtwell as worn by Mick Taylor (Brian Jones' replacement in the Stones).

It's been an interesting year for vintage fashion; with Celia Birtwell's sell out collection for Top Shop and the launch of the new Biba designs by Bella Freud.......some lovely pieces in both collections but we're still convinced that you can't do better than treat yourself to an original!

Check out the newly published VINTAGE FASHION (by Emma Baxter Wright/Carlton Publishing see pics). They used the vast C20 archive for ALL the actual garment pictures in the book, spanning the years from 1910 to 1990. We're also featured in the hilarious FASHION BABYLON by Imogen Edwards-Jones; perfect winter-hibernation-choc-guzzling reading.....and just for the record, the amusing designer rumour is all true......!
